is that a scion xd your refering to? my instructor in college beat the rated specks on it at the drag way. they got good motors etc as for stereo set up compatibility there awesome. do you got the stering wheel controls ? mite want to keep them if not oh well. No I drive a 01 Tahoe and i'm lost with your comment lol i was guessing you drove a scion. what are you looking to get out of this box is it a hell of a lot of output or is it a good sounding low volume set up? there is a lot of boxes out there that do different things depending how there built. cause of your screen name says king of spl make me wonder what your looking for. does not mean you looking for spl could just be a name. and you like sound quality that is not fatiguing (making you ear hurt from listing to it) . maybe we can help on boxes? Well I want to win in SPL Competition a few times but I am picky about clarity and its not just for highest output as much for daily use. So basically I'm saying I want to beat the competition and drive away in style. I'm starting with a single 15" 3kwatt and single 12" 2kwatt SUV classes. I'm not allowed a-lot of things so i'm relaying more on my enclosure design. I needed a change from the drag racing and concrete construction world. So I am perusing my day dream. some box basics for tl's if interested if spl comp is what your going for . you will want to try a transmission line and or a bass horn.besides the bandpass if you do not think the band pass is enough try this it a un-dampened trans mission line the term dampened refers to a restriction in air. it like a artery that carry blood once plack grow on the artery wall it restricts flow same for a tl when you stuff or reduce the vent opening to a smaller the sd which is a Theil small speck you can reduce the sd by as much as .75xsd equal area of vent and maximum area of 1.4 times sd which will give a lot more spl. for line length is of usually 6-8 foot for a un-dampened line this correspond to the hertz range found by 3390 divided by inches of line length for quarter wave see speed of sound is 13560 divided by four give 3390 so a 3/4 tl would be 13560 dived by 4 times 3 equal 10170 divided by inches yields a 3/4 wave line hertz. but to fit a tl in a auto it is best to use 1/4 wave for this application. for spl use the 1.4 times sd for the length of the line no taper on this one. or if you do taper the ending ratio should be 1.4 times sd 6-8 foot hertz of a tl equals 47 - 35 hertz. the opening should be something like 10x12 inches by 8 foot long folded up you have to follow the 10x 12 threw the hole box the length of 8 foot is measure down the center line. truthfully on your box your better of at about 40-60 hertz it easier for the sub to make spl at these hertz. it is not uncommon for the box to be 49x26x15 inches and do not forget to use sub sonic on these boxes. to bad bass horn are to big and complicated for auto applications but can be done some how cause i have seen it. if going for high output sound quality the box your building should be perfect. the above will yield a high output box for spl with test tones. I have built bass horns for concert applications with my father he has 2 massive bass horns we built that hold 2 18's each extremely big and just as loud ! Main reason I want a box like my drawing is for size but with the baffles to the ports it gives me over 30 feet of port space for longer wave compression. I am going to really study the design your talking about I think I can make something small enough with enough air flow to get it right.

We are not going to use rubber, as the modern foam surrounds are more compliant and just as durable. And there are mechanical aspects about the driver to limit excursion to a point. Rubber will do nothing about overexcurson either, that's where your suspension comes into play. I stand corrected, foam is Superior in excursion

Thanks everyone for the welcome - I decided the Green area shown will be the removable part of the enclosure to access the sub-woofers.

Our drivers are all over, but because we don't push our products on people, give out mega sponsorships or have a big pack of fan boys that build hype, we don't have a big name. Do you know anyone in Texas that has some of these set up or other models ? I would love to hear them in person.

I much prefer sealed, personal preference. Just my experiences with bandpass over many years of not liking the sound. when going Solid maybe try a Passive radiator systems its very similar to ported systems. Instead of a tuned port, a "drone cone" is used to extend the low frequency response. Most look like a flat diaphram, some may look like a woofer, but will have no magnet structure. The response is similar to a ported system, but the cut-off frequency is slightly higher, and the cut-off slope is slightly steeper. Many of you may have seen the very small enclosures made by Stillwater Designs® that used 4'' drivers with a passive radiator (not sure if they still make these). These worked extremely well (for what they were) in vehicles that literally had next to no room at all to mount a conventional enclosure inside of the vehicle (i.e.: Jaguars XJS, mounted under the seats).

I much prefer sealed, personal preference. Just my experiences with bandpass over many years of not liking the sound. I know what you mean now and anything you buy pre-made bandpass is going to suck they either they make them to small or to flimsy. The enclosure's performance is limited to a very narrow bandwidth of frequency response and can be extremely complex to build correctly. Woofers are very susceptible to cone over-excursion for frequencies outside of their operating region (specifically when they unload below the tuned port frequency). For this reason alone a high quality electronic crossover should be used with a 24 dB per octave cut-off slope or higher. A proper bandpass will out perform any other order enclosure. Done right the sub should be inside nice and cozy between 2 enclosures. aka Single Reflex Bandpass

BUMP - I love these subs they give you more than you think, until i ran one to long on a hot day and the surround separated from the basket. All good just glued back and still kicking in my brothers singleCab I'm still throwing 1200watt's constant at it without complaint...specs say 500rms 1500max

    8" Bravox PXW sonotube buildlog

I would go as far as to add a 1/4 inch of fiberglass/resin all inside to reinforce the walls so they wont expand and you lose pressure.
