Modded 952Iq

Recommended Posts

2011 hyundai sonata. 1 XFL12 in ported box. VFL 4480.1 pushing sub at 1 ohm. Ordered new components CDT HD-61. I have a modded 952iq I'd like to use on the comps. Wll this be enough power for these speakers. Im not sure what the output on a modded 952 is. I have no way to clamp and test an amp so any ballpark numbers?

It's a question of if it is enough for your listening taste and how loud your sub is. Ray said my modded 4753IQ put out about 110wpc. That's about a 50% increase, following that logic your amp may push about 75 wpc. Someone from LP should chime in soon to give you better numbers.

I've never power tested a modded 952IQ, but have power tested plenty other LP amps; modded and stock. You would normally gain 10-20 watts at best with the mod. I would guess your amp does 60-65 watts a channel at 13.5 volts. That is if the 952 was actually doing it's 45 watts per channel rated power before the mod.

Back in the day, we (team Linear guys) had habbits of running the small footprint IQ amplifiers. And they never seem to dissapoint.

They say that the 452 only puts out 22.5 watts per channel, but yet we beat the blocks down with them playing the Beasty Boys, Sir mix alot, and all of the old school Alpine reference cds and stuff ... So I'm sure that the 952IQ can deliver what you need. Try it out and come back and tell us your thoughts !!!

Most of us are running the new stuff, but will NEVER forget the ways of our old IQ setups and the punnishment we put them through ....

I'm currently using a non-modded 952 on my Blues 6.5 components until I can get the new stuff. I'm very impressed with what just a little power can do. I ran the components on head unit power for a couple of weeks. When I put the 952 on them, it was like a different world. I'm not sure exactly how much power it is, haven't tested it. And, to be honest, I really don't care because it definitely does a good job for me. I would be surprised if you were disappointed. Would love to hear your thoughts after you get it installed.

Going to install this weekend if my wiring ans speakers come in. This is my first ever component install so its going to be interesting. I've decided to place the tweeters in the sail panel instead of the stock dash space. A pillar has an airbag so that's out. I have to use a 100hz high pass filter. Is this a seperate component or is it included in the crossover with the set? Yeah, im car audio ignorant, but im trying to learn. I will definitely post up results after i do the install.

I tried to research your components based on the model number you provided. I found 2 different sets, it looks as if only the crossover was different. One set uses a 12db/octave crossover and another uses a 24db/octave crossover. Which one are you getting?

But yes, the HPF is separate from the crossover that comes with your components. Does your head unit have built in crossovers? That would be easiest. If not, you will need to either get a pair of HPFs or use an active crossover.

I hope this makes sense. If you need me to explain further, please just let me know. Happy to help.

AHA!!! I actually get it. A few months ago i picked up a used X02 because my wife wants a nostalgic old school linear build. I can use this instead of hpfs. Thank you for the explanation Parrish. Going to make an amp rack for American base on bottom, shorter board for 952 and top short board for xo2. Textured white paint to match sub box and few blue LEDs to light it up. If i could actually built what I imagine I would have an awesome setup. But sadly, ima klutz so que sera.

Hopefully someone can answer me. I've installed my mids and tweets in the door. Couldn't use sail panel and flush mount due to structures on back of panel. Wired both to stock speaker wiring for now and all sounds good, just not loud. Ready to amp them. This is where im lost. Im using stock stereo so i can keep xm, Bluetooth, steering wheel controls, etc. Do I cut speaker wire in kick panel. Cnnect speaker wire from stereo and run to trunk to xo2. Then run from amp back to kick panel and tie into stock wiring to speaker? Wiring to door is made into a plug so i cant sneak new speaker wire in.

You mention the XO2. I'm not familiar with it. Does it have high-level (speaker) inputs? If not, the below will apply. Sorry, just wanted to edit my original post.

If you are keeping your stock head unit and you want to run amps, you will need to get an interface. I know there are several out there, but I certainly don't know them all and I have never used one personally. I believe JL Audio makes the CleanSweep and Audio Control makes several, different ones for different applications. You should be able to visit each website and read about them and see what works with your application. There may be some guys on here that have experience with them that can offer further advice.

Just as a side note, there are many different aftermarket head units that offer Sirius/XM, HD Radio, Bluetooth, etc. You usually can also get an adapter to use your steering wheel controls. The reason I bring this up is that you will get much better sound quality from an aftermarket unit. Just a thought.
