Subwoofery 2 Report post Posted August 23, 2012 I'm sorry to say they won't be that cheap, but compared to the prices of the other SQ amps on the market (Zapco, Tru Technology, Focal, Mosconi, Audison) we will be considerablly cheaper but with better electrical engineering and parts. We have already had the prototypes reviewed by several different people that have tested our prototpyes against several of these brands in a direct comparison, and our amps came out on top. Most of these brands have a retail price tag of $1499.00 - $1699.00 USD for a 110 x 2 to a 150 x 2 amp, one even has stages of mods that only bring their amp up to near what we do in our normal production amp and that raised the price of their amp another $1100.00 for a total of $2600.00, As well as, the other amp's power ratings are derived from 14.4-14.5 battery volts, at 1K Hz sine wave, at 1.0% THD. Our power ratings are derived from 12 volts at 20 Hz at less than .08% THD, so your buying an even bigger amp from us than their so called power rating. Already have 1 x Sinfoni Prestigio for my horns and am looking for an amp for the lower mid/upper midbass range. Have a Milbert and a Genesis DMX in another car too - really don't know why I need to justify myself. I wish I could come to any shop but living in Tahiti is kind of difficult. linearpower 85 Report post Posted August 24, 2012 You mentioned that the 6.5" would not bottom out. Were you able to make the 6.5's bottom out before (with the same material), but now they just don't with the new amp for some reason? I can make mine bottom out with my modded 500 on certain material at high volumes. Just going back over some of these old threads since this one popped back up. To answer this question I have a good example. In Jimmy's HHR he had a 2.2HV playing the 6.5 passive components and it would pop and rattle the 6.5 at high volume on low notes, we all assumed the speaker was at its limits. IT WASN'T,(the amp was at its limits) we took the 2.2HV out and installed a LP2150 proto unit, which makes a minimum of 60 watts per channel more RMS power and the 6.5 went to a louder volume, and even went lower in frequency with no distress. The power supply on the 2.2HV was actually giving out at high volume and low freqwuency, the amp lost its damping factor at that point and could not control the speaker making it reach full excursion and pop and rattle it. Going further into the future, I took the LP2150 proto out of he Escape and put a pre-production model LP2250 in it, the speakers still took more volume and handled it. Just because the speaker pops and/or rattles doesnt necessarily mean its the speakers fault or that it is at its limits. Yes, the LP2250 could destroy them and plenty other speakers if not gained just right, but we are able to use about 80 percent of the power available from the LP2250 on the 6.5 passive components. We even tested the components in the lab hooked up ot a LP2250 and the peak dynamic output per channel as referenced from the speaker systems 3 ohm load was over 1200 watts per channel from a 250 x 2 RMS per channel amplifier. That is EXTREME headroom and control, that is the only way the speakers can take the power, is the amount of control the new amps have. With the power supply or outputs running at only around 15 percent of their total capability, they have massive reserve power! Headroom and damping factor as well as the slew rate and transient response are all thru the roof. Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
linearpower 85 Report post Posted August 24, 2012 The new amp's power supply is almost 90 percent efficient, the HV equipment was about 65 percent efficient and the older equipment ws only about 50% efficient. We also utilized more of the available power on the old amps, so we worked the power supply harder. With the new amps we gained a tremendous amount of efficiency and we are working then even less than the old power supplys so there is even more reserve power. The new amps sound open airy, clean, clear and distinct all the way up to full power, the music sounds effortless at any volume, it sounds as if the amp was idling and it just about is. I've barely had time to crank up my truck this week, let alone enjoy the music ... lol (I'm so tired it hurts to laugh) ... I did however get kind of an update on the 2150s from Ray the other day ... I'm sure he will chime back in here as soon as he gets time ... Lets just say for now that my 6.5" passive component set will never see anything larger than a 2150 ...
