8" Blues Towers - Home Speakers Review

I recently received a pair of 8" Blues Towers home speakers from Ray. These are some of the brand new old stock he still had from back in the day. (He currently has some more stock listed for sale on here)

I am extremely pleased with my purchase. I used to own Kilpsch Reference and I must say I prefer the Blues in every way. The bass is tighter and more pronounced. The mids and highs are more crisp and detailed. I believe the Blues give a more accurate reproduction of live music, which is what I'm always after.

I'm now the proud owner of both the towers and a 6.5" component set which will soon go in my car. I'm a firm believer in the product and will own nothing else as long as they are produced.

As always, Ray is prompt, courteous, and took the time to answer all of my questions before the purchase.

Thank you!

Advice/help with first vented box

I'm upgrading to two RE audio SEX12s, and I want to build a vented box for them, I'll be powering them with a Hifonics BRZ1700.1 at 1 ohm. I've messed around with the RE box calculator a bit, and came up with these numbers: 35W x 14H x 24.5 Depth, Square port width: 5.6 inches, and square port length #two: 5 inches. Ends up 4.25ft^3 @33.6 hz. Any opinions on this? This is my first vented box so I don't know too much about it, would this setup cause port noise? Also, I'll have these in an extracab truck sitting on the back seat with subs up and port up, I really appreciate any help!! -Abe

We're in the 21st century and we have the worst sound that we've ever had

A subject that the SQ folks have been complaining about for years. Several good reads and videos in the articles. Nice to read that some artists are complaining also. The "dumbing-down" of sound quality is driving everyone on the creation end nuts, but it also diminishes the listening experience for you and I.

I've been re-ripping all my discs (2000+) as lossless and buying SACDs whenever I can. I've also renewed an old habit of just listening to albums of music while bypassing all the "features" in my HT receiver. Just left and right channels with the sub. I really wonder if some of the 24-bit versions on HDTracks is worth buying? And what would I lose in in the conversion to CD format? Or could I burn it as DVD audio and save some of that resolution?

I hope what I've been reading about a renewed movement to put high-resolution audio into Blu-Ray discs is true. And I hope it succeeds in the way that SACD and DVD-A did not. But we all know, it will take the car audio manufactures several years to catch up. Well, some manufactures anyway. I'll put my plug in here for Blues and LP for being on the front of the wave in designing and building no compromise SQ products.

Ohm's Law in Car Audio

Source: http://www.caraudiohelp.com/ohms_law/ohms_law.htm

	Ohm's Law in Car Audio

Ohm's law is the most basic and most useful electrical equation. It's used frequently in car audio installation on both the power input and the power output side. Simply stated Ohm's law is:

E=I*R

Where E is voltage measured in volts, I is current measured in amperes (amps) and R is resistance measured in ohms. Memorize this equation. You'll use it A LOT in car audio. For example, if you need to figure out the current (amps) moving through a 12 volt circuit and you know the resistance of the circuit is 4 ohms, the equation would look like this:

E = 12volts
I = unknown
R = 4 ohms

I = E/R or I = 12/4 which is I = 3 amps

Another useful equation to know is the power equation:

P = E*I (power equals voltage multiplied by current or watts = volts * amps). From this we can substitute Ohm's law for any values we don't know. For instance if we need to know power but we only have amperage (I) and resistance (R) then we could substitute I*R in the power equation (because according to Ohm's law E=I*R) and get P = I*R*I.

Wiring

There are two ways to wire electrical components. In parallel or in series (or a combination of the two). Both are important to understand, especially when properly hooking up speakers to amplifiers.

	Parallel Wiring

Parallel wiring is connecting components to a source so that they share the same voltage. To put that in a useful way, it would be connecting all of the speaker positive terminals to the positive terminal of the amplifier and connecting all of the speaker negative terminals to the negative terminal of the amplifier.

This increases the work load on the amplifier because more current will need to be supplied to this lower resistance (impedance). Parallel resistances (in this case 4 ohm speakers) will combine according to this equation:

1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3...

Where Rt is the total resistance and R1, R2 and R3 are the individual resistances. For our example Rt will be the resistance at the amplifier's speaker output terminals andR1, R2 and R3 will be the resistances of the individual speakers. If we connect (2) four ohm speakers (R1 and R2) in parallel to an amplifier the total resistance will be:

1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2 or 1/Rt = 1/4 + 1/4 or 1/Rt = 1/2
Inverting the equation we get Rt = 2 ohms.

Similarly if we connect (3) four ohm speakers (R1, R2, and R3) we will get:

1/Rt = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3 or 1/Rt = 1/4 + 1/4 + 1/4 or 1/Rt = 3/4
Inverting the equation we get Rt = 4/3 or 1.33 ohms.

	Series Wiring

Series wiring is connecting components to a source so that they share the same current. To put that in a useful way, it would be connecting the amplifier's positive terminal to the positive terminal of the first speaker and then connecting the negative terminal of the first speaker to the positive terminal of the second speaker and so on. The final speaker in the chain will have it's negative terminal connected to the negative terminal of the amplifier.

This decreases the work load on the amplifier because less current will need to be supplied to this higher resistance (impedance). Series resistances (in this case 4 ohm speakers) will combine according to this equation:

Rt = R1 + R2 + R3...

Where Rt is the total resistance andR1, R2 and R3 are the individual resistances. For our example Rt will be the resistance at the amplifier's speaker outputs andR1, R2 and R3 will be the resistances of the individual speakers. If we connect (2) four ohm speakers (R1 and R2) in series to an amplifier the total resistance will be:

Rt = R1 + R2 or Rt = 4 + 4 or Rt = 8 ohms

Similarly if we connect (3) four ohm speakers (R1, R2, and R3) we will get:

Cabin Gain

	Source: http://www.caraudiohelp.com/newsletter/cabin_gain.htm

The Effects of Cabin Gain in Car Audio

Have you ever wondered why car audio systems can have so much bass as compared to a home stereo system? The reason has to do with space. Your home has a lot of it and your car doesn't. Because there is so little space in a car the bass notes (which are long pressure waves) build up inside the passenger area. To calculate the length of a sound wave you divide the speed of sound (in feet per second) by the frequency. At sea level, the speed of sound is approximately 1,127 ft/sec. For example, a 40 Hz note has a wavelength of approximately 28 ft (at sea level).

(speed of sound)/(frequency) = wavelength

OR

(1,127 ft/sec)/(40Hz) = 28.175 ft

Since the length of the average car interior (including trunk) is in the 12 ft range the 40 Hz note will be longer then the car's interior. This is why notes below 70-90 Hz (depending on the vehicle) will have a greater output than the rest of the frequencies. Once this magic frequency is reached, bass output will increase by about 12 dB/octave below that frequency. This phenomenon is called cabin gain or the "transfer function". So a smaller vehicle will have a greater cabin gain and should be able to have greater low bass than a larger vehicle. This is true for identical subwoofer systems with identical power. However larger vehicles are able to fit more subwoofers and amplifiers and so can out produce a smaller vehicle with limited space.

The transfer function works well because human ears are less sensitive to low bass. This natural bass boost helps to compensate for this. It doesn't matter what type of vehicle you have, the cabin gain will still apply. It will just be at a lower frequency with larger vehicles and at a higher frequency with smaller vehicles. Firing orientation of the subwoofer system has no effect on the transfer function of a particular vehicle. You can face the woofers in any direction or place them anywhere in the vehicle and the gain will be the same because it is only dependent on vehicle size. This is not to say that firing orientation or woofer placement will not have an effect on the subwoofer system output. It certainly does but this difference is not attributable to the cabin gain.

	Up Front Bass

Another happy side effect is that we are not able to tell where the subwoofer is placed in the vehicle. Basically what happens is that below this magic, vehicle dependent, frequency the subwoofer is simply pressurizing the air in the vehicle and no longer becomes an identifiable point source. This allows placement of the subwoofer in the trunk and still have the impression that the bass is in front of us, commonly called "up front bass". This is often more difficult to achieve in practice and requires careful selection of crossover frequencies and high subwoofer crossover slopes. If the slope is not high enough or the subwoofer crossover point is not low enough then we will hear mid-bass frequencies coming from the rear of the car and will be able to localize the subwoofer system. Any rattles that come from the trunk area will also ruin the effect. This is where proper use of <a href="http://www.caraudiohelp.com/car_audio_noise_troubleshooting/car_audio_noise_troubleshooting.htm#damping" style="color: rgb(0, 68, 204); ">damping materials comes into play.

Maximizing the Output of Your Subwoofer Through Proper Placement

Choosing the right subwoofer with the right enclosure and the proper amount of power is only half the battle in achieving maximum bass. You also need to properly position the subwoofer in the vehicle. If you've been into car audio long enough you'll learn that an enclosure will sound louder in different parts of the vehicle. Common sense would tell you that you should get the enclosure as close as possible to the passengers. Actually this is not always correct. Most enclosures, as a general rule, will sound the loudest when placed in the far extreme corners of the vehicle. This means the area near the taillights or against the side panels of the trunk or hatch area. This is called "corner loading". Trucks usually have little choice for subwoofer placement but the area against the rear cabin wall is usually the best (often the only) location.

Subwoofer placement for the best bass is something you will have to experiment with. Try different areas and different orientations of the subwoofer system. You may find that simply turning the speaker enclosure around gives you more bass from the same location. Personally, I use a small subwoofer enclosure and play bass notes through it while testing various locations and mounting orientations before building the "real" enclosure. This ensures I don't build a box that is too big to fit in the ideal location. If your vehicle has a trunk then make sure you listen to the locations with the trunk closed. It can make a difference.

	The Horn Effect

If you drive a hatchback then you will get the added benefit of the "horn effect". The area formed by the rear hatch door and the hatch floor form a triangular area similar to a horn. This shape causes the sound from the rear mounted subwoofer to be amplified as it leaves the hatch area and travels through the passenger compartment. This is the same principle that musical horns use to create much louder notes than could be created by a human mouth alone (can you out yell a trumpet?). See the diagram below for a visual representation of this.

The "Horn Effect" of a Hatchback
This horn effect combined with the effect of "corner loading" is a major reason why it is easy to make a very loud subwoofer system for a hatchback vehicle.

Bottom line: The cabin gain or transfer function will increase the low bass in a car stereo system over that of a home stereo system. The smaller the vehicle, the greater the gain.

Not really into car audio much anymore after being screwed over by a local shop on an install/wall build over a year ago. I'm really just here to see what I should be asking for the audio equipment that I was going to use for that build. It's all Orion stuff, but I'm not sure where to ask this question, is there even a place for that here? A local shop said he will sell it on consignment for me....

Performance of well to vastly under-powered subs?

Here is my situation - I am installing a new system in my Jimmy. The plan is to go with 6 speakers for which it provides mounting holes, the two in the front connected to my h/u and the two in the back connected to a 4 channel amp. I also want to extend the bass lower from what that will produce, so I'd like to add either 1 or 2 subs to the equation.

The amps I am looking at provide 50 watts x 4 channels continuous at a 4 ohm load. Nothing special, but cheap and sufficient I think. I know it will handle the back speakers just fine, but my curiosity is what to do about the subwoofer situation. I'm past the days of getting balls shaking loud for the sake of it (well in my car anyhow - my pa is an entirely different matter), so what I am really looking to do is extend some quality bass below what I am going to get from the rest.

I'll just use the constant rms ratings here as the maximum power is never going to come into play. What I am looking at are a couple different subs - a set of 200 watt 12" single coil subs with 94 db spl 1w/1m, and a 900 watt 15" dual coil sub 96 db spl 1w/1m.

My last sub install was a very underpowered - 250 watts to a 10" 2k watt CV Stroker, and it to me was about the perfect woofer as far as not coloring the sound, it didn't drop quite as low as I'd have liked, but I'm also not dropping that kind of cash again on a single woofer. Could I really expect to get a similar performance out of a 15" sub powering it that low? It's a lot more woofer to move, but a lot less motor weight/resistance at the same time.

As far as enclosures go, either way will likely end up in sealed boxes just because I prefer the sound. Not that it should matter in any way, but that's the plan.

Any thoughts you all might have would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

okay here is my new projekt, its a 09 sports edition golf station wagon.
what i hope to realise with this build is better sound quality than what i have originaly in the car.
(btw english is not my first language : P)
btw just found out that you cant have more than a few photos in each post so this is where it all are:
http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v221/tellerts/noobs%20golf%20sport%20delux/

annyhow

had the car for 2-3 weeks and i got this:
avh3300bt from pioneer

after this i have primerely been doing sound deadening. first i started in the boot floor with stinger roadkill extreeme or somthing.. and did not read finely on the packet that i shoulda heat those up first. hopefully they dont fall off : \

then i installed an cteck charger for my battery.

then i got this:
: P

his weigh where 4.170 and was 51 cm long..

then i started with the cables a phono on the right side and the power on the left side.

almost all this i had to do in my new garage,....................................................

then i started with the sides of the boot,

then i took a trip testing it out : PPP

whats next on the list?

get new speakers preferably something thats geared towards sound quality (suggestions??)
a local store got a deal on polk atm (2way frontset, sub and an 4 channel amp) for abaout 50% off retail price.. polk audio db series

also i am thinking of keeping it to one manufacturer

Speakers dont work on AMP

Hi, I have a Focal Solid 4 AMP, JBL GTO 938 100w RMS rear speakers and Pioneer TS-WX301 800W - 150 W RMS sub. The radio is radio PIONEER DEH-2300UB

The Amp is 4 channel. I connected the sub in bridge mode (rear 3-4 channel), the rear speakers on the 1-2 channel (front). The problem is that the sub is working great, but the speakers aren't. I have no clue, i tried to connect the speakers on the 3-4 channel, but they still aren't working. Actually I hear some music but i think they are acting like a sub not like speakers......

Could anyone help??

First impressions of an SA-8...

Posted this review on another forum and thought it may be useful to some of you on here that are thinking about a Sundown SA-8...this is more of a sound quality review than pure output, but you'll get the picture...

Okay, it's been a couple days since I installed it, you can look at my build log My link ....Anyways, it's installed in about .6 cu. ft. center console enclosure firing down about 3 1/2" off the floor and a 3" Aeroport firing out toward the front, under the dash. It's tuned to around 36-37Hz...for power I have an old school Planet Audio (Zed made) P1002, running 2 ohms mono (about 450 watts). For mids and highs, I have an Autotek Model 33 running some 6 1/2" Viper Audio, some Vifa/Hollywood Sound 4" dome midranges, and some Polk MM1200 tweets. (Yeah I know, all old stuff, gotta get updated in my next build)

Let me preface these reviews saying I have the sub level turned a little lower level than I normally listen at, I set it more like what an IASCA/USAC judge would listen to. Honestly, I have it even higher than that, as usually the judges prefer it even lower but it's a little too "light" sounding in the sub-bass for me that way. Now, on to the review...

Jennifer Warnes - "Bird on a Wire" from the album Famous Blue Raincoat
Listening to this track brings me back to the old competition days...The SA-8 had just the right amount of depth and "overhang" on the beats. Every note sounded solid and deep, just as the recording was intended. Good start.. 4.5/5 rating from me

Jennifer Warnes again - "Ain't no Cure for Love"
Balanced, clean bass. Sounded smooth and a perfect mix of impact and punchiness. I like it. (By the way, great track if you want to test the stereo separation and imaging of your system, USAC judges used to use this to hear the placement of singers and musicians across the soundstage.) 4.5/5

Clair Marlo - "All for the Feeling" off the Sheffield/Coustic Test and Demonstration Disc
Again, a song USAC judges used to use. From the percussionists to the sound of the drumming by the late Jeff Porcaro, of Toto fame (yeah dating myself here) a good track to hear a lot of distinctive sounds in the bass. Tight when it needed to be, the SA-8 did a nice job here. 4/5

Metallica - "Enter Sandman"
Wow...the SA-8 sounded like thunder at the beginning of this track. Maybe not QUITE as clean as some setups I've heard on this, but still very good. The regular bass drum in the rest of the song was great though, tight, DEEP, and felt like you were sitting right next to Lars Ulrich's bass drum. NICE. 4/5

Maroon 5 - "Harder to Breathe"
DAMN! Shocked me the output and impact the SA-8 had on this song...Clean, powerful, and just rocked the van with great bass. One of my favorite songs I listened to. 5/5

Michael Buble - "Come Fly with Me"
Really impressive here. The stand up bass sounded great. The best word I can describe it here with is REALISTIC. I love listening to his music because it shows a balance of so many different instruments, plus his voice is outstanding. The SA-8 really shined on this one. 5/5

Now onto some fun...

Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra - "Back to the Future" theme song off Star Tracks II
This one was more for my pleasure. This song, (along with The Planet Krypton an the same disc) have SERIOUS lows...well below most people's hearing. Being that my enclosure is tuned at 36-37, I didn't expect much here. I was pleasantly surprised though, as long as I didn't try to overdrive the SA-8, it did a pretty nice job of making you feel the low bass without sounding like it was going to come ripping out of the box. Not bad. And the notes that weren't WAY below the tuning frequency of the box sounded great. No complaints from me. It is just an 8", so for that I cut it some slack. 4/5

Bass Patrol - "30's and Lows"
Just HAD to see what the little beast could do. The first few notes in this song are kind of low for this box, so it wasn't spectacular there, but when the higher bass notes kick in, WOW. Is that really an 8"? REALLY impressive output for such a small driver. I played a few more bass songs after this, and it does great as long as you don't go too far below the tuning frequency. 4.5/5

So overall, that means my score I gave the SA-8 in this review was a SOLID 35.5 out of a possible 40. I may have even been able to grade it a little higher with a lower tuning point, but just didn't have the space for a longer port. Still though, LOVE this sub, and already have a friend thinking about a bunch of these or the E8's in his next build, since he's always liked the snappy sound of small drivers. Actually have another friend I may get into a few 12" like the Z series...only problem with this review is it makes me see the limitations of my old school inside speakers, can't wait till I get a nicer car so I can upgrade all of that too!

Last thing I have to say, GREAT JOB JACOB! I'm a believer, I always ran stuff like JL, Orion, Oz Audio, MB quart etc., and this little sub runs right with the big boys, if not surpassing many of them! Thanks!

Members around Northeast Ohio area...

Hey there everyone....I have a few friends who do a little free "tweak and test" thing for SPL every couple weeks. The next one is Saturday, August 20th (weather permitting of course.) It will be from 4pm-9pm at the Brunswick car show. The city holds a car show/crusin gig every Saturday at Laurel Square Shopping Center. They have their own space to do test and tune, just look for the EZ-UP tent and some loud cars around it. The address is 1733 Pearl Road, Brunswick Ohio 44212. It's about 18 miles south of Cleveland and about 20 miles north of Akron. Of course its free. They will be having a competition there in the fall where all money paid in to compete gets paid back to the winners. These guys don't do it for the money, just because they love loud cars. These guys and I have built a few IASCA and Db Drag World Record holders in the past, so we love our loud cars. So come on down, they'll have the meter there, and test your car for free! Or, if you just love to hang out and talk stereo, that's cool too. There's usually a bunch of cars to look at for the car show too, so it's fun all around.

By the way, they aren't too bad about it being loud, as long as you aren't playing it with the doors wide open for a long time. So come on out and have fun! I'll try to update the thread when we get close to the date so everyone knows if it will look like the weather is going to let us be there..... Thanks, Mick.

I am in the process of lowering it. any ways I got the axel nut spring bolt unbolted remove the shock and started to unbolt the sway bar end link now I got to put a smaller jack under it and jack it up and remove sway bar end links. I will be pad locking the chain instead of it flying every ware. As always I will get a picture and a list of all tool and part if needed but I will picture the parts going on for ya to check out in a bit.

4 10S AND 900 WATTS BUT NO BOOM

I am putting 4 infinity kappa perfect 10s in my boat two on each side and powering them with a orion xtr900. The boxes are 4 individual .65 cf boxes stuffed with polyfill. I have both positive and both neg hooked together on each side then the positive from one side into pos of the amp and the neg going into the pos from the other side with the neg from the other side going into the neg on the amp. The amp is bridged with correct phase switch positions, OK here is the problem. The drivers move a lot (almost an inch) but my 6.5 mids are overpowering them it seems like with that much cone area moving it should be pretty loud but it just isnt. Is there anything im overlooking or is this just a bad combination? the reviews say the kappa 10s rock and hit super hard in a sealed box but I got nothing.... help I looked on a system diagram program and it suggested hooking it up with both pos and both neg going to each side then running from pos on speaker 1 out neg on 1to pos on skeaker 2 then out neg on speaker 2 to amp either way it should be a 4 ohm load , right? I might have used a better title because I am not wanting boom , I want tight hard hitting bass like in speed metal I just dont seem to be getting the output I thought I would, Is polyfill required ? I put it it loosely so it would not affect the volume of the box too much.

Alright guys. Putting in 4 6-1/2 inch speakers in my Civic (thats what fits). Ready for a really nice sound system that can play all genres: rock, rap, death metal, dubstep, jazz, you name it.

Keep in mind I have 5.1 rca output that will go into some amps then to the speakers. I want the speakers powered by amps. I want name brand quality sound that will impress my friends and make our ears very happy (:

I want to be able to blare my music loud and proud with no distortion and good bass etc.. I have the sub for now which will be replaced once I get this part of the audio system done. Still debating how I am going to do the center speaker. I am lost when it comes to this stuff so I really need some suggestions.

My budget: $400 for 5 powered 6.5" speakers. I would like to pay less but I am lenient. I don't want to waste my money I want to go big or go home.

Thanks.

Explorer Build for a friend

A buddy of mine loves my stereo and wanted to step up to something better, he got 4 Autotek m12d4s and an Autotek m4000.1d amp. I know not the greatest of equipment but a decent get by for now. So I built him a box and hooked everything up and I have to admit it did impress me. I didn't get to round over any of the port corners since my router died cutting the first sub hole. That was upsetting. But a new router will come and he is planning to upgrade to better subs as money permits.

REALLY ANNOYING ISSUE PLZ HELP!!!!

Well I am new to this forum and in search for some professional advice. First of I have a 2001 grand prix gt. Im pushing three MB Quart Reference 12's with a MTX TE601d monoblock amplifier. I have Rockford Fosgate Power series 6.5" components in the rear deck, 5.25" Diamond Audio Hex components in the doors. Im pushing all of these with a MTX TE404 4 channel. Im running 4 gauge power wire back the splitting into 8 gauge to each amp.

Im having a wierd noise issue that only shows up in the front channel of my amp. It is almost like alternator noise, but it is not constant. It typically comes on after I have played the stereo loud for a little while, and some times even changes amplitude periodically. I have made sure that the RCA cables are ran back to my trunk on the opposite side of the car than the power wire. After the noise persisted I bought replacement RCA's with no luck in eliminated the problem. I then replaced my head unit also with out any luck at all. I have changed the grounds for my amplifiers and am positive that the are solid connections. I have also triple checked to make sure no speaker wires were grounding out against the chassis.

I have also switched the RCA's on the amplifier ( I moved the RCA's plugged into the rear and placed them into the front channel and vice-versa) the periodic noise then moved to the rear.

I also put an inline noise filter on the 12 V constant supply to the head unit.

The only things i can think of would be that the amplifier has bad channels or that the headunit is bad. Considering I literally just got the head unit 3 days ago i doubt it is that.

WHAT DO I NEED TO DO TO GET RID OF THIS RIDICULOUS NOISE!?!?!

Not taking the easy route. Im looking for opinions on setup please

Thank you all for taking your time to help me. I have a few questions about equipment and setup. I am installing this equipment in a 97 grand marquis. most of the equipment I have is either old or given to me so please keep that in mind.

I will be installing a jensen vm9512
I also have (4) 6.5 Earthquakes I was considering for the rear.
I have a old polk Db i believe it 400w rms its in a sealed fiberglass box

amps:
mtx 102
hifonics zx-4000
clarions apa 450
pioneer gm7200
and a small jensen 18wx2 rms was considering using for tweeters in a component

have access to a clarion dpx 2250 if needed as well

I have been reading a lot and confused best way to set up the amps and speaker?

I'm not sure which amp to what speakers is best. I have a few ideas but........

Also I'm having a really hard time deciding on speakers for the front doors?
i was considering 5.25 such as: infinity reference 6032cf , polk db 5.25, mq quart dsh 213 or maybe even soundstream sst5.25

I been doing a lot of research and rattling my brain unfortunately I am on a budget and don't have someone where close by to listen to variety of different speakers.

I promise not looking for the easy route by asking for help. Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated

Thank in advance

hey there...new to this site. as my name implies. i try to stick to "old school" audio in my car, mainly cuz I just dusted off the parts bin in my basement and had my old goods re-installed. Running A/D/S PH15 and Soundstream ClassA 100 to a/d/s AL5 and 6S speakers and RF 12"subs. Just had them installed in my 06 Acura TL, using the oem hu along with the RF 3Sixty.2 and some JL coaxs in the rear. Been having some issues with the system and hoping to find some solutions here. Mainly remote power and noise.
I competed in a few IASCA and local comps back in the early 90s. My then-wife who didn't understand what the stereo fuss was all about and room needed to transport the kids led to purging and storage of all that goodness. Well, the Then-Wife is GONE, the kids have outgrown the baby seats and can tolerate db's, and best of all my new girl loves to crank it up too, so the tunes are back!

Hello - Former Bass Head now CNC guy saying

Hello everyone. BloomingtonMike.

Been a long time since I have been in a dB lane. 2003 Atlanta Ga SLAP finals probably. Not even sure that league exists anymore.

Anyway I was cleaning out the basement and selling some stuff on ebay and decided to look up Termpro to list the items to a group that can appreciate nicer car audio. Not a lot of activity there but someone mentioend this site.

Since 2003 I got into woodworking in 2004 and last year built a pretty large CNC router myself - Joes CastCNC 4X4 rack and pinion setup. I always thought it would have been awesome to have that back when I was building boxes and amp racks. I can cut pretty much anything under 4'X4' at one time. My machine is all steel and aluminum excpte for the sacrificial MDF bed (I surface that). I also have vacuum clamping on my cnc router. The router is a 2.25hp hitachi M12VC. Anyone here ever need cnc router work done?

I Just checked and Pretty funny - My JGC is still on sounddomain! Here was what i used to roll.
http://www.cardomain.com/ride/134477/1998-jeep-grand-cherokee

Sadly it was sold in 2008 - traded it to a buddy for his 06 Titan. Man I loved that Jeep.

Here is my cnc I made if you guys want to see it:

Some work can be seen here:
http://s39.photobucket.com/albums/e169/BloomingtonMike/CNC%20Router%20Build/

I will link up some ebay ads in the for sale section (if that is OK) on a like new Alpine CDA-7949 and a PRA-H400 I still have. Also have some Alpine remotes and some interfaces still. I have not listed it yet but I also still have a brand new Orion DEQ30 that has never been installed and a ton of Stinger platnium and gold connectors, battery terminals, ANL fuse holders, distro blocks, a couple 200amp relays, and some 0ga power wire. Also have some Stinger 1700CCA batteries too but those would be hard to ship. Also have a LinearX PCRTA with high SPL mic I would sell to. It has the PACIV box too.

I know how much people love when a new member sells stuff day one but feel free to look up my account on termpro and sounddomain and you will see the stuff I have at least at the time was pretty nice. I am just one of the has beens is all. Life just got in the way. Two daughetrs now and a 2nd gen 2010 Vmax (brand new as of Friday) are the new passions along with my woodworking.

PM me or Send me an email if you are intersted in any of it or are interested in getting some CNC work done.

Cant wait to look around and see what the current audio equipment is like.

Ohmage

I been pondering on this for a while so I figured I would ask for some expert advice. If I run say two speakers off one channel of an amp and 1 of the speakers is 4 ohm and 1 is 8 ohm I know it will change the load the amp sees but will it cause the 4 ohm speaker to get more of the wattage in return making it just a little louder than the 8 ohm?

speaker baffles

Are there any speakers that are meant to go in a speaker baffle? I need to keep the speakers seperate from the spl of the sub in the trunk so I'm going to use speaker baffles. Since most speakers like this are free-air it won't be good. Are there any speakers that are meant to go into baffles? I can fit 6.5" speakers at the most.

Joke Time !!!

Hillary Clinton was out jogging one morning along the parkway when
she tripped, fell over the bridge railing and landed in the creek
below.

Before the Secret Service guys could get to her, 3 kids who were
fishing pulled her out of the water. She was so grateful she offered the kids whatever they wanted.

The first kid says, "I want to go to Disneyland ." Hillary says,
"No problem, I'll take you there on my special Senator's airplane."

The second kid says, "I want a new pair of Nike Air Jordan 's." Hillary
says, "I'll get them for you and even have Michael sign them!!"

The third kid says, "I want a motorized wheelchair with a built in TV
and stereo headset!" Hillary is a little perplexed by this and says, "But you
don't look like you're handicapped."

The kid says, "I will be after my dad finds out I saved you from
