New build - Do I need an amp?

Hi, my first post and first car audio build... Just want to get some more sound out of my car since the speakers right now sound like sh** if i play even slightly loud. Also my current setup has no cd player or anything much so have to listen to the sh***y radio out here too.

My goal is to be able to play some loud music with some nice bass.

A couple questions I have considering this is my first build and I seem to be coming across different answers in reading things online.
Will this work? if not, what do i need to do differently?
Do I need an amp? the difference with/without?

I am concerned that the rms of the cd player is only 20 amps while speakers rms 85~ is this really bad?

I would rather not get an amp as I don't feel totally confident in my ability. But will put on in if I'm reassured its not too hard and it will work...

I went ahead and purchased the JVC Arsenal KD-AHD79 129.99 including all the supplies it says I need to build it.

So, these are speaker I am interested in but by no means am I dead set on getting them, I want some opinion on speakers for sure, especially on whether or not I should get amp and which with or without amp would be good.

back= 2 6x9

Alpine SPS-619 6x9
Alpine SPR-50 5.25"

Would it be wise to get some lesser speakers and then add a subwoofer? I read on the JVC cd player thing that adding a dedicated mono channel(i think?) amp to a sub would be a possibility.

Replacing factory stereo but keeping factory speakers: How many watts per channel?

I have a 1996 Olds 98 that I'm wanting to replace the factory stereo in.

I've been very happy with the sound of the factory system, but as of late the cassette deck has quit accepting any cassette adapter I put into it, so I can't listen to my iPod through the system anymore.

I want to replace the factory stereo with a newer unit which has an aux input on the front so that I can plug my iPod in, but I don't want to replace the factory speakers since I like the way they sound and they're still in great shape.

How can I find out how many watts the factory speakers will handle so that the new stereo I buy doesn't exceed what the speakers can handle?

Well I was heading to work last night and noticed a sick dually at a local dealership. Well being as I need a dually for pulling my gooseneck trailer for my race car (stability), I decided to stop and look at it. Well after talking (begging) to my wife, she told me if I could get it under $10,000, I could get it.

So this morning I took my F-250 tow pig to the car wash and had them detail and buff it and do the interior, basically make it look new, and then headed to the dealership where this dually was.

Of course driving a lifted F-250 diesel gets noticed and as I pulled I was greeted by 3 salesman. After driving the dually and inspecting thoroughly, I decided it was time to lay out an offer and after discussing other options we came to an agreement.

After about an hour of talking and paperwork, this is my new whip. 2006 Ford F-350 Dually!

Well I will just come out and say it! I need HELP!!!! I have decided to change my substage, nothing wrong with what I have, just want to change it up.

I want to run a pair of 10" subs! My reasoning is for the tighter response, plus more cone area. They will be dual 2 ohm so I will be able to run my amp at 2 ohm daily, which comes out to 1000rms (est) compared to 600 rms (est) I am running daily now.

Ok so here are my issues, 1- I dont have a computer, so I cant run torres. 2- I dont have a clue on properly getting port,tuning correct!

The enclosure is basically 36" W, 13.5" H, and at most 18" deep (external measurements)

Here is a pic of the front baffle dimensions!

If someone could help me that would be great. I want to be loud but still efficient, so I was thinking tuning of 30-34 would be best.

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and pretty new at car audio in general but let me explain where I am. I have a 2007 honda element. I have installed a JVC kd-r200 head unit which I installed myself because best buy wanted $99 to do it. Im new here and looking for some advice. Its been a while since I was into the car audio scene and my mind is a little dusty so I apologize in advance. I'm looking to set up a small, some what affordable system in my 07 Tundra. The mounting depth is a MAXIMUM of 6.5" according to the guy who I'm planning on having build the box for 2 12" subs (tech12volts). I have been mainly looking in to these subs: Image Dynamics ID12, Sundown SD12 or e12, and the Polk MM12. My question is (because I have no experience with any of these) which is a better overall quality and value? Are they considered to be competitors with JL's w3?

i was woundering if you guys could help? I got a alpine M500 ...I know to only use rms wattage and never peak when putting a sytem togather. i got that much but even still need help with the basics.. alot of amps list there peak power my amp just says 300 watts rms @ 4 ohms and 500 watts rms @ 2 ohms. is powering a 500 watt speaker pushing the amp even though its rated for that ? I was thinking of getting The 4 ohm DVC 12" type R...I think its 400 watts rms. would that work? and sound decent. I cant use the 2 ohm type R...on my amp right unless i wire the sub for 4 ohms.... im nut 100% on this tring to learn it best i can.. A DVC 2 ohm sub will presant a 1 ohm or 4 ohm load to amp depending on how i wire it. and A DVC 4 ohm sub can only presant 2 ohm or 8 ohm load to amp right? like I couldn' take a 2 ohm type R sub and wire to my amp to presant a 2 ohm load . I have no idea just going on what i think i learned from reading..lol sorry hope these arent stupid Q's.. And it would be better to run a 400 watt rms sub with a 500 watt rms amp then like 600 watt rms sub with a 500 watt rms amp.. Is audiobahn speakers any good.. i know alpine is decent but not top of the line.. I also relize you get what you pay for...so trying to get a little bass in my car without spending $3000.00...i dont need to be heard coming a block away but deff. want to feel it pound a little in my car...i guss it it would be okay for the car next to me to here it alittle lol.... i know its alot to read but just tring to get info before a buy a sub..i already bought the amp becouse a few people told me these would work okay for what im looking for but then others say never by alpine or any other amp that is not made in america but idk know they say the real good amps you dont here there names alot becouse they choose not to go in to a mass global base distrubotor...i have no idea really..any help guys n ladies if your here

Help with alternator choice/recommendations

Im looking for an alternator in the $300-350 range, that would be able to power an amp that is 2500 rms at 1 ohm. I'll be using it at 1700 rms at 2 ohms to start, but i'd like to have the potential to upgrade. I've been looking at a Powerbastards Fitzall 220, seems decent for the price. Also, this wont be going in place of my stock alternator, ill be removing my A/C compressor and fitting it in place of that. Would i be able to take an alternator made for any other car and make it fit, or is there wiring issues that ill run into? The alternator will be running this one amp only. Unless for the money i can get one that could also power my truck, which is a 1995 Toyota T100 if that helps. Im open to buying used if anyone knows of a good place. Thanks in advance, Abe.

Just a quick run-down of what I'm running, but first a question: imagine how it'd sound to be able to recreate bass notes once they've gone too high for your sub if you've not got dedicated mid-bass speakers. Just to get the high notes to be heard a full octave lower than the original recording....
...well, I can, I do, and I'll tell you how.

My system. The head unit in my install is the thoroughly amazing jvc kd-avx77. Probably the greatest head unit available, with DVD mp3 Bluetooth and true 5.1 all built in to one unit without buying additional modules.
I listen to my mp3 CDs in 5.1 all the time, in Dolby pro logic II. The center speaker is amplified by a jvc 2ch amp running an alpine sbs05c above the head unit, and the other 4 channels are dealt with by the factory fitted 5.25" drivers (with crossover set to 150hz and speaker size set to small).
Rear speaker effects are enhance with the addition of kenwood tweeters mounted on the pillars just behind the front seats. Bass is taken care of by a 15" vibe slick subwoofer being fed by a kenwood kac9152d monoblock amp.
The headunit has video out which is connected to a 5.8" necvox screen which looks like the oem sat nav screen from the model above mine, the video amplifier connected between these also runs 2x 4.3" screens mounted on the headrests for the kids to watch. On this headunit the video out is in use all the time, not just when playing video from DVD/iPod/iPhone, when playing CDs the video out also shows album/artist/track info + disc track list + album art. It does the same when playing music from iPhone, so the screens stay on all the time.

The bass effects engine. Imagine a keyboard or piano, say it starts on a C, so you've got C D E F G A B C.... Let's say the sub rolls off (reaches its upper frequency limit) by the time the note reaches the 2nd C note, well now let's say instead of the sub trying to reproduce that 2nd C, the note itself is recreated in real time to the first C instead, a full octave below the original... It truly is an amazing effect that breathes new life into recordings you've heard a million times.

Yeah, I know, all sounds a bit salesman-like, but I'm not selling this idea.
I used to have a top of the range pioneer md headunit, off the top of my head I think the model was a meh-p9900r or something, and it had a low frequency effect called 'octaver', and that was my inspiration as I loved that effect... But mine is even better!
Rather strangely, the effects unit is actually a guitar pedal, namely a behringer uo303. I simply put this between the headunit and the sub amp, messed about with the settings a little, decided it was amazing, then dismantled it!! I removed the circuit board, unsoldered the gain and octave 1 variable resistors, removed the footswitch button, then the blue LED. Then re-connected them all to the board by a 12-ribbon cable 30cm in length, so it all still worked as it should, but from a distance. Then replaced the switch and LED with an illuminated momentary push button switch, then mounted it, and the two VR's where the sat nav speaker lives on the higher model. Thd pedal requires a 9v supply, so it's fed by a regulated dropper hidden behind the dash with the circuit boards for the pedal and the rear-view mounted voltage display. All that is visible is 2 dials and a button. When the switch is deactivated it runs on 'pass-thru' so the original LFE/sub signal gets to the amp, but when it's pressed and the blue ring around the button illuminates it sounds incredible.

If you listen to the song 'masterplan' by oasis, the opening sequence is played very high on the bass guitar, dropping lower in the spectrum just before Noel starts singing, all of which apart from the lowest 2 notes are above the roll-off for my settings on the amp, but with my special button pressed, all the notes are within the sub's happy zone, and the two notes it likes on the original setting are higher than the 3 that precede it. It needs to be heard to be believed.

So i have been interested in car audio ever since i bought my Jeep (2007)

i had 2 12 inch p3s which were the loudest in my highschool, ever since this experience i just wanted to get louder and be the loudest in the area.

Next i upgraded to 1 18" d2 SMD/AA and powered it using a Rockford Fosgate T40001bd. I had the box built for me, and all i did was put everything together. I wanted to keep 5 seats and be able to see throughout my windows

i competed with this system 3 times and won once with a score of 144.6dbs on music (white girl) on a test tone it did 145.6 which i didn't really know too much of, if it was good or bad but i was told that it was a pretty impressive score.

Around January, while i was driving 40 kms to Centennial College (I was taking a auto body apprenticeship course) my whole right side channel speakers popped, my t500.2 amplifier got messed and sh*t was just horrible. I didn't know what the problem was because i checked all my connections that i had modified and everything was tight and clean. So then one day i went bowling with my cousins and my Jeep broke down on me, it wouldn't start so then i had it towed to my dads autobody shop.

i later found out that the positive lead that goes to my fuse box had corroded and was loose. I sanded it down and and cleaned the corrosion off it. It fixed all my problems!

I saw that the Kicker warhorse was for sale on audiosavings so i didn't hesitate... i bought it, not knowing that the SMDs have to be Dual 1s in order for me to run it .

I decided to just sell my old SMD and start from scratch and go for KICKER everything, no disrespect Rockford Fosgate is a good company but i just prefer KICKER.

So for my next build i wanted it to be LOUD and LOW so i decided to go with the SMDs again since they are amazing subs, and tune the box to 30hz since, i wanted to be able to do hairtricks since that would be pretty impressive in the area that i live. (not that many ppl have wicked systems). Also a ground pounder no burp machine!

The gear that i needed to buy was:

1 Kicker Warhorse
3 Kicker IX amplifiers 500.4

Hey guys I have been off here for a little while but thought I would drop in with an update. The mazda and entire system has been sold in order to purchase another vehicle, one that fits my screen name ALOT better!! 1989 CHEVROLET K5 Blazer with a 6.2 diesel. Gained alot more room, 4wd, and better mpg. A new build will come as money allows. Done a few upgrades already. Kenwood KDC-X995 head unit with sirius and ipod hooked up, got some temp 6x9s in boxes in the floor between front and rear seats and borrowing some Alpine type r 12s and a Crunch cr2000.1 from my wonderful neighbor till I make a purchase on some E series Sundown 12s. This truck still has the FACTORY speakers in and was hooked up lol. Anyways a few pics of my new tank.

8" Blues Towers - Home Speakers Review

I recently received a pair of 8" Blues Towers home speakers from Ray. These are some of the brand new old stock he still had from back in the day. (He currently has some more stock listed for sale on here)

I am extremely pleased with my purchase. I used to own Kilpsch Reference and I must say I prefer the Blues in every way. The bass is tighter and more pronounced. The mids and highs are more crisp and detailed. I believe the Blues give a more accurate reproduction of live music, which is what I'm always after.

I'm now the proud owner of both the towers and a 6.5" component set which will soon go in my car. I'm a firm believer in the product and will own nothing else as long as they are produced.

As always, Ray is prompt, courteous, and took the time to answer all of my questions before the purchase.

Advice/help with first vented box

I'm upgrading to two RE audio SEX12s, and I want to build a vented box for them, I'll be powering them with a Hifonics BRZ1700.1 at 1 ohm. I've messed around with the RE box calculator a bit, and came up with these numbers: 35W x 14H x 24.5 Depth, Square port width: 5.6 inches, and square port length #two: 5 inches. Ends up 4.25ft^3 @33.6 hz. Any opinions on this? This is my first vented box so I don't know too much about it, would this setup cause port noise? Also, I'll have these in an extracab truck sitting on the back seat with subs up and port up, I really appreciate any help!! -Abe

A subject that the SQ folks have been complaining about for years. Several good reads and videos in the articles. Nice to read that some artists are complaining also. The "dumbing-down" of sound quality is driving everyone on the creation end nuts, but it also diminishes the listening experience for you and I.

I've been re-ripping all my discs (2000+) as lossless and buying SACDs whenever I can. I've also renewed an old habit of just listening to albums of music while bypassing all the "features" in my HT receiver. Just left and right channels with the sub. I really wonder if some of the 24-bit versions on HDTracks is worth buying? And what would I lose in in the conversion to CD format? Or could I burn it as DVD audio and save some of that resolution?

I hope what I've been reading about a renewed movement to put high-resolution audio into Blu-Ray discs is true. And I hope it succeeds in the way that SACD and DVD-A did not. But we all know, it will take the car audio manufactures several years to catch up. Well, some manufactures anyway. I'll put my plug in here for Blues and LP for being on the front of the wave in designing and building no compromise SQ products.

im building a wall for a 95 buick regal 2 door. My goal is spl, I have about 1 ft leeway on positioning the wall. Should i put it as close to the front seats as possible, or leave the 1 ft leeway? any advice would be appreciated!

So here is my assorted system of equipment I have gotten mostly free from friends and family and also at the bottom i have questions about speaker fix of a Klipsh speaker.

Pioneer rear projection tv that I got from a friend and same for the pair of Polk Audio S6 on top of KEF C40's, which my parents bought along with the Denon reciever and cd player and pair of Optimus speakers on top. Then a Fisher receiver from an aunt and an 8" Klipsh subwoofer behing the tv.

4th Order Enclosure

I am looking into building a 4th order for my single 12" Onyx LSM. I want to keep my tuning in between 22-28 hz to keep with my SQ desires.

The dimensions I want to stay in are 13.5"H x 26.5"W x 18"D or smaller. I will be building the top and bottom pieces with 1/2" mdf due to height restrictions.

If anyone could help, that would be great!

Here is my situation - I am installing a new system in my Jimmy. The plan is to go with 6 speakers for which it provides mounting holes, the two in the front connected to my h/u and the two in the back connected to a 4 channel amp. I also want to extend the bass lower from what that will produce, so I'd like to add either 1 or 2 subs to the equation.

The amps I am looking at provide 50 watts x 4 channels continuous at a 4 ohm load. Nothing special, but cheap and sufficient I think. I know it will handle the back speakers just fine, but my curiosity is what to do about the subwoofer situation. I'm past the days of getting balls shaking loud for the sake of it (well in my car anyhow - my pa is an entirely different matter), so what I am really looking to do is extend some quality bass below what I am going to get from the rest.

I'll just use the constant rms ratings here as the maximum power is never going to come into play. What I am looking at are a couple different subs - a set of 200 watt 12" single coil subs with 94 db spl 1w/1m, and a 900 watt 15" dual coil sub 96 db spl 1w/1m.

My last sub install was a very underpowered - 250 watts to a 10" 2k watt CV Stroker, and it to me was about the perfect woofer as far as not coloring the sound, it didn't drop quite as low as I'd have liked, but I'm also not dropping that kind of cash again on a single woofer. Could I really expect to get a similar performance out of a 15" sub powering it that low? It's a lot more woofer to move, but a lot less motor weight/resistance at the same time.

As far as enclosures go, either way will likely end up in sealed boxes just because I prefer the sound. Not that it should matter in any way, but that's the plan.

Any thoughts you all might have would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

had the car for 2-3 weeks and i got this:

after this i have primerely been doing sound deadening. first i started in the boot floor with stinger roadkill extreeme or somthing.. and did not read finely on the packet that i shoulda heat those up first. hopefully they dont fall off : \

Hi, I have a Focal Solid 4 AMP, JBL GTO 938 100w RMS rear speakers and Pioneer TS-WX301 800W - 150 W RMS sub. The radio is radio PIONEER DEH-2300UB

The Amp is 4 channel. I connected the sub in bridge mode (rear 3-4 channel), the rear speakers on the 1-2 channel (front). The problem is that the sub is working great, but the speakers aren't. I have no clue, i tried to connect the speakers on the 3-4 channel, but they still aren't working. Actually I hear some music but i think they are acting like a sub not like speakers......

Could anyone help??

My brother has just upgraded his stereo from his VY commodore (ute) and installed a Pioneer DEH-7350BT, using a aerpro wiring harness.. everything works fine, tuner, cd, usb etc, however there is no memory, for example any stereo he programs in, he loses once power is lost.

Any ideas?

I bought a special backup camera for my 2008 Cadillac CTS4, do work well,
but now I'm having difficulties finding the Video input locations..
I don't see a port in back of the radio..

I have no Video input to my navigation system-- Alpine. I installed the camera's power to the reverse power source but I need a lockpick or video in motion unite for my 2008 Cadillac CTS4 with Nav and no factory RCA input.

Posted this review on another forum and thought it may be useful to some of you on here that are thinking about a Sundown SA-8...this is more of a sound quality review than pure output, but you'll get the picture...

Okay, it's been a couple days since I installed it, you can look at my build log My link ....Anyways, it's installed in about .6 cu. ft. center console enclosure firing down about 3 1/2" off the floor and a 3" Aeroport firing out toward the front, under the dash. It's tuned to around 36-37Hz...for power I have an old school Planet Audio (Zed made) P1002, running 2 ohms mono (about 450 watts). For mids and highs, I have an Autotek Model 33 running some 6 1/2" Viper Audio, some Vifa/Hollywood Sound 4" dome midranges, and some Polk MM1200 tweets. (Yeah I know, all old stuff, gotta get updated in my next build)

Let me preface these reviews saying I have the sub level turned a little lower level than I normally listen at, I set it more like what an IASCA/USAC judge would listen to. Honestly, I have it even higher than that, as usually the judges prefer it even lower but it's a little too "light" sounding in the sub-bass for me that way. Now, on to the review...

Jennifer Warnes - "Bird on a Wire" from the album Famous Blue Raincoat
Listening to this track brings me back to the old competition days...The SA-8 had just the right amount of depth and "overhang" on the beats. Every note sounded solid and deep, just as the recording was intended. Good start.. 4.5/5 rating from me

Jennifer Warnes again - "Ain't no Cure for Love"
Balanced, clean bass. Sounded smooth and a perfect mix of impact and punchiness. I like it. (By the way, great track if you want to test the stereo separation and imaging of your system, USAC judges used to use this to hear the placement of singers and musicians across the soundstage.) 4.5/5

Clair Marlo - "All for the Feeling" off the Sheffield/Coustic Test and Demonstration Disc
Again, a song USAC judges used to use. From the percussionists to the sound of the drumming by the late Jeff Porcaro, of Toto fame (yeah dating myself here) a good track to hear a lot of distinctive sounds in the bass. Tight when it needed to be, the SA-8 did a nice job here. 4/5

Metallica - "Enter Sandman"
Wow...the SA-8 sounded like thunder at the beginning of this track. Maybe not QUITE as clean as some setups I've heard on this, but still very good. The regular bass drum in the rest of the song was great though, tight, DEEP, and felt like you were sitting right next to Lars Ulrich's bass drum. NICE. 4/5

Maroon 5 - "Harder to Breathe"
DAMN! Shocked me the output and impact the SA-8 had on this song...Clean, powerful, and just rocked the van with great bass. One of my favorite songs I listened to. 5/5

Michael Buble - "Come Fly with Me"
Really impressive here. The stand up bass sounded great. The best word I can describe it here with is REALISTIC. I love listening to his music because it shows a balance of so many different instruments, plus his voice is outstanding. The SA-8 really shined on this one. 5/5

Now onto some fun...

Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra - "Back to the Future" theme song off Star Tracks II
This one was more for my pleasure. This song, (along with The Planet Krypton an the same disc) have SERIOUS lows...well below most people's hearing. Being that my enclosure is tuned at 36-37, I didn't expect much here. I was pleasantly surprised though, as long as I didn't try to overdrive the SA-8, it did a pretty nice job of making you feel the low bass without sounding like it was going to come ripping out of the box. Not bad. And the notes that weren't WAY below the tuning frequency of the box sounded great. No complaints from me. It is just an 8", so for that I cut it some slack. 4/5

Bass Patrol - "30's and Lows"
Just HAD to see what the little beast could do. The first few notes in this song are kind of low for this box, so it wasn't spectacular there, but when the higher bass notes kick in, WOW. Is that really an 8"? REALLY impressive output for such a small driver. I played a few more bass songs after this, and it does great as long as you don't go too far below the tuning frequency. 4.5/5

So overall, that means my score I gave the SA-8 in this review was a SOLID 35.5 out of a possible 40. I may have even been able to grade it a little higher with a lower tuning point, but just didn't have the space for a longer port. Still though, LOVE this sub, and already have a friend thinking about a bunch of these or the E8's in his next build, since he's always liked the snappy sound of small drivers. Actually have another friend I may get into a few 12" like the Z series...only problem with this review is it makes me see the limitations of my old school inside speakers, can't wait till I get a nicer car so I can upgrade all of that too!

Last thing I have to say, GREAT JOB JACOB! I'm a believer, I always ran stuff like JL, Orion, Oz Audio, MB quart etc., and this little sub runs right with the big boys, if not surpassing many of them! Thanks!

Hey there everyone....I have a few friends who do a little free "tweak and test" thing for SPL every couple weeks. The next one is Saturday, August 20th (weather permitting of course.) It will be from 4pm-9pm at the Brunswick car show. The city holds a car show/crusin gig every Saturday at Laurel Square Shopping Center. They have their own space to do test and tune, just look for the EZ-UP tent and some loud cars around it. The address is 1733 Pearl Road, Brunswick Ohio 44212. It's about 18 miles south of Cleveland and about 20 miles north of Akron. Of course its free. They will be having a competition there in the fall where all money paid in to compete gets paid back to the winners. These guys don't do it for the money, just because they love loud cars. These guys and I have built a few IASCA and Db Drag World Record holders in the past, so we love our loud cars. So come on down, they'll have the meter there, and test your car for free! Or, if you just love to hang out and talk stereo, that's cool too. There's usually a bunch of cars to look at for the car show too, so it's fun all around.

By the way, they aren't too bad about it being loud, as long as you aren't playing it with the doors wide open for a long time. So come on out and have fun! I'll try to update the thread when we get close to the date so everyone knows if it will look like the weather is going to let us be there..... Thanks, Mick.

ya i will be up dateing it two places here and under the bums ranger just to keep the thread up. any ways lowering it 2 front 4 rear that was inches. will be doing a hole shit load of stuff over the next few years auto body last any ways i will be up dateing every night as the bild goes along with the lowering.any ways i keep ya up to date.

Here is a picture of the current devastation to the truck if you do not know it is a ranger. I am in the process of lowering it. any ways I got the axel nut spring bolt unbolted remove the shock and started to unbolt the sway bar end link now I got to put a smaller jack under it and jack it up and remove sway bar end links. I will be pad locking the chain instead of it flying every ware. As always I will get a picture and a list of all tool and part if needed but I will picture the parts going on for ya to check out in a bit.

Finally out of RETIREMENT!!! hopefully!

Between moving runs today, I took Arthur to a classic car show. The weather got a bit hot and we did not stay as long as I would have liked, but I snapped a few shots of some of the more interesting cars. Kind of skipped the 8000 '67 camaro's and corvette's.

I am putting 4 infinity kappa perfect 10s in my boat two on each side and powering them with a orion xtr900. The boxes are 4 individual .65 cf boxes stuffed with polyfill. I have both positive and both neg hooked together on each side then the positive from one side into pos of the amp and the neg going into the pos from the other side with the neg from the other side going into the neg on the amp. The amp is bridged with correct phase switch positions, OK here is the problem. The drivers move a lot (almost an inch) but my 6.5 mids are overpowering them it seems like with that much cone area moving it should be pretty loud but it just isnt. Is there anything im overlooking or is this just a bad combination? the reviews say the kappa 10s rock and hit super hard in a sealed box but I got nothing.... help I looked on a system diagram program and it suggested hooking it up with both pos and both neg going to each side then running from pos on speaker 1 out neg on 1to pos on skeaker 2 then out neg on speaker 2 to amp either way it should be a 4 ohm load , right? I might have used a better title because I am not wanting boom , I want tight hard hitting bass like in speed metal I just dont seem to be getting the output I thought I would, Is polyfill required ? I put it it loosely so it would not affect the volume of the box too much.

As the title states these are some past builds I have done. These are just a few of my builds, there are many, but just some of my favorites!

I will start with a box build for an old boss. The box was fabricated while I was not able to do body work, due to a broken collar bone, so all was done while in a fixed sling!

Alright guys. Putting in 4 6-1/2 inch speakers in my Civic (thats what fits). Ready for a really nice sound system that can play all genres: rock, rap, death metal, dubstep, jazz, you name it.

Keep in mind I have 5.1 rca output that will go into some amps then to the speakers. I want the speakers powered by amps. I want name brand quality sound that will impress my friends and make our ears very happy (:

I want to be able to blare my music loud and proud with no distortion and good bass etc.. I have the sub for now which will be replaced once I get this part of the audio system done. Still debating how I am going to do the center speaker. I am lost when it comes to this stuff so I really need some suggestions.

My budget: $400 for 5 powered 6.5" speakers. I would like to pay less but I am lenient. I don't want to waste my money I want to go big or go home.

A buddy of mine loves my stereo and wanted to step up to something better, he got 4 Autotek m12d4s and an Autotek m4000.1d amp. I know not the greatest of equipment but a decent get by for now. So I built him a box and hooked everything up and I have to admit it did impress me. I didn't get to round over any of the port corners since my router died cutting the first sub hole. That was upsetting. But a new router will come and he is planning to upgrade to better subs as money permits.
